Part of the final imagery for London show in the Dray Walk Gallery. Much of the influence from this project came from old hip hop flyers dated from the mid 70′s onwards. Most of the flyers were designed by Buddy Esquire and Phase 2. The general aesthetic of these posters/flyers was very geometric framing, with typography that didn’t match up. Collages of the musician were usually the centralized focus of the image. All of these flyers would have been made by hand using letter transfers, wax machines, exacto knives etc.
The aim of this project was to pay homage to the artists that formed the backbone to hip hop culture, while remaining true to the oldskool flyers in terms of design.
